I have always been fascinated by culture, tradition, individual background history and the illusion of worldly borders.
This is the beginning of a story of African people who have embraced the richness of their heritage all the while shaping their own narrative outside of what they have been told to become.
Often times people choose to relate to each other through suffering and misfortunes in history which consequently means giving away power. History is important but it is not everything.
The creation of “Tribal girl” is a means to achieve a deeper appreciation for my identity as an African woman in a free world. It is more about roots than it is about indoctrination as represented by the hairstyles the figures adorn( hut for home, a tree for organic form). The wings represent a liberated spirit.
