Series: 1/2

This series came about in contemplation of what it means to be human deprived of the subjectivity and complexities that come with cultural evolution. We are a deeply connected species and so I use the hearts featured in every one of the artworks in this series to reconcile our perceived differences. They are a broad representation for our sense of humanity and our intuition. In looking up what different individuals thought it meant to be human, i came across varyingly yet similar ideas. bill Gates summarised that our "human" is in being able to effectively communicate and pas information from generation to generation. A few articles on wiki said that connection is the seat of the human experience and and in our ability to appreciate and create art. There is sort of an air of mystery around hearts, they have been used over the ages to symbolise love, connection, empathy and soul yet what they are physically is a muscled organ that helps us pump blood. My aim with these pieces was to bring this juxtaposition into play, strip us down to flesh and bone animated by thought and feeling and to raise questions about the entitled need to be more than we are (god-like).
